Digest Exclusive: When Public Act 239 went into effect on August 1, 1972, lottery net profits were initially deposited into the state's General Fund rather than directly into education accounts.
It was not until 1981 that the Michigan Legislature officially amended the statute to mandate that 100% of net lottery proceeds be earmarked exclusively for the State School Aid Fund.
🛞 The Uniroyal Giant Tire along I-94, MI
Digest Exclusive: Over the subsequent decades, the landmark underwent multiple renovations to update its design and maintain its structural integrity.
In 1994, a renovation added neon accent lighting and a modernized hubcap.
In 1998, a giant 11-foot nail was inserted into the tire tread as part of a promotional campaign for Uniroyal's NailGard self-sealing tires.
🌉 Mackinac Bridge Driver Assistance Program
Digest Exclusive: Workers complete a liability checklist, adjust mirrors, and record every 5-mile trip using an internal dash camera.
The Mackinac Bridge Authority suspended the driver assistance program on March 13, 2020, due to COVID-19 safety precautions, before reinstating it on November 1, 2021.
Upon its return, officials added a mandatory $10 fee to offset annual program expenses that averaged nearly $33 per driven vehicle.

Albert J. Sobey is Born
Born in the Keweenaw Peninsula on August 7, 1885, Albert J. Sobey was a visionary industrial educator who served as the founding president of General Motors Institute (now Kettering University).
He pioneered the cooperative education model in Flint, blending academic rigors with direct factory floor experience.
His institutional model helped train generations of engineering and executive leaders who powered Michigan's automotive dominance.

Honolulu House Museum
Built in 1860 by Abner Pratt, a former U.S. Consul to Hawaii, the Honolulu House in Marshall stands as an extraordinary architectural fusion of Italianate, Gothic Revival, and Polynesian design.
Visitors today can tour the restored home to view authentic 19th-century period furnishings and admire intricate hand-painted Victorian murals spanning the ceilings and walls.
